Facials Q & A

New Image Aesthetics

What is a facial?

A basic facial exfoliates dead skin and cleans out your pores to give you healthy-looking skin. Skin-nourishing serums or products that soothe your skin may be added, too. Dr. DuMornay tailors your facial to fit your skin care needs.

For example, if your complexion is dull, he may recommend a facial with a skin-brightening effect. However, if fine lines and wrinkles are your greatest concern, Dr. DuMornay may suggest a vampire facial or photofacial.

The perfect facial to suit your needs depends entirely on your skin type and problem areas you want to correct.

There are plenty of different facials to treat just about any skin type, but New Image Aesthetics relies on a couple of the most popular facials among women with fine lines, wrinkles, and uneven skin tone, including vampire facials and IPL photofacials.

What is a vampire facial?

Made popular by Kim Kardashian, the “vampire facial” is a minimally invasive alternative to smooth fine lines and wrinkles and create a younger-looking complexion. The vampire facial combines microneedling and platelet-rich plasma (PRP) therapy.

First, micro-punctures are made in your face using a microneedling device. These tiny wounds cause a healing response that stimulates collagen production over time. Then, adding platelet-rich plasma (PRP) ramps up the healing and repair of your skin because the platelets are rich in proteins called growth factors.

A small amount of blood is taken from your arm and spun in a centrifuge to separate its platelets from the other components. Then the PRP is painted onto your face over the tiny punctures, allowing the growth factors to soak into your skin. Using your own body’s natural growth factors, your skin heals and repairs itself to produce smoother, more toned skin.

What is an intense pulsed light (IPL) photofacial?

A popular type of light therapy, an IPL photofacial targets the pigment-producing cells in your skin to treat uneven skin tone and pigment issues, such as age spots, brown spots, redness, rosacea, and sun damage.

This minimally invasive treatment uses intense pulses of light to penetrate deep within your skin, causing pigmented lesions to absorb the light energy and heat to help get rid of the darkened areas, such as tiny blood vessels and age spots. In just 30 minutes, IPL can help treat unwanted pigmented areas.

An IPL photofacial is effective on your face, neck, arms, shoulders, legs, and more. The treatment reduces the appearance of:

  • Redness
  • Blotchy skin
  • Uneven skin
  • Rosacea
  • Large pores

IPL Photofacial treatments may change skin tone over time, so they are best suited for patients with light skin.
