Skin Resurfacing Q & A

What is a vampire facial?

A vampire facial is a treatment that uses your body’s own healing agents to refresh and rejuvenate your facial tissue. This innovative treatment can stimulate collagen production and reduce the appearance of:

  • Wrinkles
  • Fine lines
  • Crow’s-feet
  • Milia
  • Cellulite
  • Smile lines
  • Frown lines

In essence, a vampire facial can give you a quick, noninvasive face-lift.

How does a vampire facial work?

A vampire facial uses platelet-rich plasma to trigger the growth of new, healthy tissue on your face, transforming your skin. PRP is a powerful, safe, and natural way to resurface your skin, leaving it glowing.

To get the PRP, Dr. DuMornay takes a small sample of your blood. He then runs it through a centrifuge to separate out the platelet cells. These platelets are rich in growth factors, which tell your body it’s time to start a healing process.

PRP has long been used to help heal joint pain and reduce inflammation. Using it on the skin of your face triggers a powerful healing and regenerating process. Specifically, it begins the generation of new collagen and elastin, the proteins that help your skin look firm, plump, and youthful.

Once Dr. DuMornay has prepared the PRP, he uses a microneedling device to essentially inject it into your skin. The microneedling creates small channels in your skin through which the PRP can be delivered, helping it saturate into the lower layers of facial tissue and trigger more dramatic skin resurfacing.

Does a vampire facial hurt?

The vampire facial is designed with your comfort in mind. The microneedling can create a sensation of discomfort, especially across your forehead where the skin is thinnest, but most patients report feeling relaxed and comfortable during the treatment.

What should I expect after my vampire facial?

Immediately after the facial, your skin will likely be red and may be tender. As the PRP goes to work, you’ll see your skin start to shed some of its older layers in about three days. Within a little over a week, you’ll get glowing, smooth, rejuvenated skin.
